Wall Hangings

From tapestries in villas and castle to your own little paradise at home, wall hangings add great depth and burst of color to any room. In this article we go over two different ways of creating your own mandala wall hanging. You can either start from scratch with your own pencils and paper to create a mandala motif or go for a stencil pattern to paint over.

Creating your ownmandala wall hanging from scratch will take you back in time or on a journey to the mountains where monks tediously start a mandala and after weeks of work, erase the piece of art to start the meditative process all over again. Stencils are the other hand are quick, easy and give that old vintage feel when placed on a canvas and using the right colours.

Going DIY and Getting Meditative

If you do not have much money, or you simply want to make a personal gift for a loved one. This is the tutorial for you.A mandala is a complex abstract design that is usually circular in form. In fact, "mandala" is a Sanskrit word that means "circle". Mandalas generally have one identifiable center point, from which emanates an array of symbols, shapes and forms.

Mandalas can contain both geometric and organic forms. They can also contain recognizable images that carry meaning for the person who is creating it. In essence, mandalas represent the connection between our inner worlds and outer reality. Designing your own mandalas can be both inspirational and therapeutic.

Drawing for the Soul

When you create your own mandala, think of it as an echo of your soul. Drawing and coloring a mandala can be a highly enriching personal experience in which you look inside yourself and find the shapes, colors and patterns to represent anything from your current state of mind to your most deeply-desired wish for yourself, for a loved one, or for humanity.

You can design a mandala to symbolize a state of mind that you would like to achieve. Mandalas are great tools for meditation and increasing self-awareness. Many different cultures around the world use mandalas in their spiritual practices.

The best thing about designing your own mandals is that you have the freedom to choose whatever shapes and colors that you feel express your sense of self and your view of reality. Your mandala isyours, and you have the freedom to use your creativity to create a mandala drawing that is uniquely you.

Once you know the basic steps of how to draw a mandala, you can try now new designs and new colors each time you draw a new mandala.

Materials Needed

You don't need many materials to learn how to draw a mandala. All you need is: paper, a pencil, a ruler, and an eraser.

To color in your mandala: your choice of colored pencils, watercolors, crayons, or any other type of art material for coloring. You can also use a compass if you like - this will be covered in the steps below.

Invest in a Stencil

With some crafting supplies, like a stencil design, and a little imagination, you can create your own DIY wall art in no time! It’s that easy. All you have to do is grab a blank canvas, select your favorite stencil pattern, and make a one-of-a-kind wall art for your space.

If you love to make your own crafts and love to decorate your home, then investing in a stencil and a blank canvas is perfect.  You can buy Cutting Edge Stencilsfor DIY projects,  and goodness, you will get super excited when you see how gorgeous  the released line of Mandala Stencils are. These patterns are perfect making DIY wall art!

If you’re trying to recreate something you have seen on pinterest that says old and wise, opt for brown canvas background and gold paint for the stencil and our your paint onto a plate or paint tray.   Dip your dense foam roller into the paint. Roll off the excess paint onto your folded paper towel until the roller looks almost dry. The key to stenciling is using as little paint as possible. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge.  Painter’s tape can help hold the stencil in place.

A project like this is super easy and quick.
