Women’s shoes and handbags are a great way to have statement pieces added to your outfit. If you are in all-black or wearing multicolored from head to toe, your shoes and accessories allow you to showcase a bit more of your personality and style. Shoes have an attitude of their own and the type of heel you wear can vary from a wide heel, a platform, a wedge or a stiletto.
For this spring/summer season, designers are going back in time; focusing on old motifs found in fashion house archives. But this time they are adding their own modern twist. Exaggeration was key to this year’s catwalk shows by integrating classic, vintage designs with modern twists and embellishments as well as new shapes and materials. Not to mention the colors! Pastel tones of sea green, blush and blue were contrasted by luminous multicolored pieces creating very opposing style trends for 2019.
Feathered heels took over the runways, adding a touch of Baroque, Victorian and 30’s style. As the shoes fluttered down the catwalk, they instantly grabbed everyone’s attention and quickly left little else to remember. The outfits that matched the shoes were probably as luxurious as the feathers, but the shoes stole the limelight. Added to the heel of the shoes, the straps or the front, the colorful plumage matching the shoes looked absolutely fabulous.Prabal Gurung was the chief of feathers this season adding a flock of feathers to his asymmetrical and sculptural stilettos. One of the most original looks was a raven feather provocatively sticking out from a slick, contoured shoe. The opposite was seen in the Brock collection who opted for multiple sets of feathers giving that Sixties London warehouse party look. Royal blue feathers and deep red decorated the thin heels at Dries Van Noten while Simone Rocha’s added the finishing touches to kitten heels by wrapping feathers around the shoe.
If you thought the feather look wasn’t whimsical enough, wait until you see the next adornment - this time in the shape of a bow. This year’s shoe style guide wants to accessories the shoe with all different kinds of bows. Modern and straight, thin or thick; classic and round, made from soft or hard fabric - there were bow styles there that you wouldn’t have even thought existed; and you will see more of them this year.
As we saw in another article that focused on this season’s handbag trends, we see the same matching, clear PVC designs for high heels. Although plastic is not the most elegant of fabrics, the shoe does make your foot look luxurious and magical. Who wouldn’t want to be reminded of Cinderella going to a ball to meet her prince with her see-through shoes? Glass is a lot more refined, but these PVC styled-shoes are easier to manage.
If you thought stilettos were hard to walk in, wait until you see the new sculpted-heel trend that had its moment on the catwalk. Scuplted heels are not new, but they are risky with only a few designers taking on the challnge. In 2019, however, we see the craft taking over little by little with designers exploring how far they can go. Some heels are designed in a way that no heel is needed on the back at all! Others are inspired by large beads and sculptures. We can’t wait to see what people will buy and walk in!
These strappy high heels were made with mini-rope (mostly white or cream) and had wooden pieces hanging from the straps adding a little natural decoration. The style of the rope and sandal reminds you of the sea, on a boat, in ancient Rome, Greece or Egypt making you want to book that sunny holiday as soon as possible.
Chunk is big for 2019. Over sized backs and platforms were demonstrated confidently putting a more sporty look at the center of fashion which is mostly dominated by elegance and extravagance. But these shoes are extravagant. They boast load colours and make a welcoming home for your feet due to them being so easy to wear and to stay in them all day.
